This week we began teaching each other our sections for the choreography. In my piece I’m using unison to create the image of brain waves forming a memory. I also had a pattern of a straight vertical line facing the front of the stage.
When I began to teach my section, I started by explaining how everyone would start and how they were going to get into the vertical line in height order. Afterwards, I taught the rest of the section and we went over it with the music. Something I could improve on for next time would be to come to the class completely knowing what I want it to look like and how I want things to be done; including small details.
As you can see from the image below, I tried to copy the movements of the ‘delta’ brain waves in my own choreography to help portray the message of my piece. (How to Manipulate Brain Waves for a Better Mental State, 2021)
(Edited): below is an image I created of the different types of brain waves. The red line represents the 'delta' brain wave. As you can see the frequencies of waves is lower than the others, and the amplitude and wavelength is greater.

Thats so interesting how you've based your movements off of brain waves. A question I wanted to ask was why you choose this specific pattern for your choreography?
ReplyDeleteI chose to have this vertical pattern because I felt that from the front it captures the movement of brain waves which inspired my piece, making it more interesting, because from the side view you wouldn’t be able to see the movements as waves.
DeleteYou mention the delta wave is the route you've gone down with your process. Do you have a visual image to show us how you have represented this in your choreography? Maybe taken from your rehearsal footage?
